40 files and i understand 3

tl;dr day 3 of building in public. i picked my first app, one where you type what's left in your fridge and it tells you what to cook. the ai made 40 files, i understand about 3, and i spent 2 hours stuck on one error.

my laptop screen at night full of red error lines, my hand on the trackpad, through the ascii filter

ok i picked one.

after 6 bad ideas in the shower, 4 hours of sleep and office coffee that tastes like a penny, i finally just picked something. a little app where you type whatever’s left in your fridge and it tells you what to cook.

it probably already exists. i don’t care.

my fridge is pizza bites, milk and lunch meat most weeks. i need this app more than anybody.

i’ve been going back and forth about the toilet idea from yesterday, the one about every vibe coded site looking the same. i still like it. but i’ve never shipped anything. so i want one small thing done first. something i can finish. then i go after the big one.

so i asked the ai to set it up.

it made like 40 files.

i understand maybe 3 of them.

that’s my vibe coding journey right now. i sell stuff on the phone all day. i didn’t go to school for this. i’m 23 in so cal with a sales job i hate, $0 mrr, and a 2015 mac air. i’m learning by breaking things.

and last night i broke something.

2 hours on the same error. the ai kept saying “you’re right, my apologies” and then handed me the exact same code back. over and over. same code. same red lines. same apology. it was like talking to a customer service rep who’s reading a script. and trust me, i would know. that’s literally my day job.

we were both tired.

i didn’t fix it. i closed the laptop and went to bed with gus. he doesn’t care about errors. he cares about the warm spot on the blanket.

i’m not mad about it. 2 hours of being stuck is still 2 hours i wasn’t scrolling. i’ll go at it again tonight. if the code can’t fix it, i’ll read until i understand what it’s actually yelling at me about.

a guy said hi to me in the replies at like 2am and i told him the truth. i’m new. i’m just learning and having fun. that’s where i’m at.

couple other things from the last day.

i hate linkedin. it feels like a place for people to pretend to be professional. somebody in the replies said it’s facebook for corporate. yeah. exactly.

and i got on a little rant about cars. if you’re paying $1,000 a month to drive something just so people think you have money, i don’t get it. if you’re rich and it’s your hobby, cool, go for it. me, i’ve got a 2008 chevy and a 2012 vw golf. both are crappy. i love them both. i’ll drive them until they die.

if i need a certain car to impress you, we’re probably not going to be friends.

same thing with apps honestly. i’d rather build something small and ugly that works than something shiny i’m paying off forever.

day 3. still $0. one app picked. 40 files i don’t understand.

that’s progress. i think.
